Bafana players meeting confirmed amid payment issues

The Football Union of South Africa (FUSA) is calling for changes within the mother body handling all football affairs in the country, SAFA, while giving the latest update on the payment issues that have rocked the Bafana Bafana camp.

Despite performing well on the pitch in recent times, which culminated in a bronze finish at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, not to mention qualification to the next edition of the tournament, Bafana Bafana players and support staff have allegedly not been paid for the past three camps.

This was for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, where Hugo Broos' charges were paired with Uganda, South Sudan, and Congo-Brazzaville in Group K.

According to FUSA secretary Taelo Motloung, there will be a meeting with some national team players this week to discuss their issues.

"If not today, then tomorrow we will speak to the national team players. Players are willing to share their experiences with us," Motloung told KickOff.com.

"According to SAFA, they are facing financial difficulties, including debts and owing money to SARS. They cite the expenses of traveling across Africa for the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers as part of the problem.

"However, not paying your players for the last three camps is unacceptable.

"We will investigate what promises were made to the players to get their agreement for this situation.

"This issue must be addressed and resolved before the AFCON in Morocco," he continues.

Motloung says the biennial tournament requires a different agreement since it is a unique competition.

"We do not want a repeat of previous issues where negotiations only began midway through the tournament. Currently, there is a lack of transparency at SAFA.

"We, as a country, need to hold a football indaba to discuss the challenges facing our teams.

Despite all our national teams performing well, SAFA is letting them down. The problems lie within the administration, which is failing Bafana Bafana."
