Gavin Hunt claims Darren Keet was better suited to Afcon qualifier conditions

Keet started in Khune’s absence in Sfax last Sunday and put in a solid performance in goal as Bafana registered a 2-1 victory over Libya and, as a result, qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be played in Egypt.

“The decision [to play him as the one number one goalkeeper at AFCON] will come when Khune, who has been the number one, comes back. But in a game against Libya Keet would have been a better option than Khune anyway because of the way they play. He is more suited to a European based type of game, where the ball is going to…there is no one who can take a cross better than him, even Khune. He can take the crosses all day, if he is not punching he is catching.”

Khune is expected to be back from nursing a shoulder injury by the time Bafana play in AFCON, which will give head coach Stuart Baxter a selection headache.
