Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has given his verdict on Burnley striker Lyle Foster who recently opened his scoring account for Vincent Kompany's side.
Foster scored his first goal in English football as Burnley defeated Wigan Athletic 3-0. It was the striker's third appearance for the Clarets since sealing a record-breaking move to the Championship from the Belgian Pro League for a fee in the region of 7 million, that could go as high as 10 million in add-ons - the highest amount ever paid for a South African footballer.
The 22-year-old has been selected in Broos' 23-man Bafana squad for crucial back-to-back Afcon qualifiers against Liberia to be played on 24 and 18 March respectively.
Broos has revealed that he had been following the attacker's progress.
"I had contact with Lyle [Foster] in the beginning, but I don't want to call him every week. Let him adapt to another way of football. Let him adapt to a new team and I will see him on Monday, so no problem," Broos told journalists.
"I haven't spoken with [Vincent] Kompany, let Lyle adapt there and I will see how he progresses. If he [Foster] has a problem or something, okay, I will call Kompany because I know him very well. I put him in the team in Anderlecht when he was 17-years-old.
"But it's not the time for that. There is nothing problematic at the moment.
"He [Kompany] is doing what he has to do. He is bringing him [Foster] slowly and that's the only way to do it...Because it will be a very big difference between what he knows from Belgium and what he knows now.
"Certainly, the second division in England is [tough], I saw the game where he scored last Saturday, against Wigan, it's half-rugby, half football.
"Burnley is playing [good] football and they are so good that they win all the games but at Wigan? Unbelievable but that's good for Lyle, he will progress and I'm happy with how Kompany is bringing him in."
Foster and Co will face Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
