Bafana’s target man is having a great season in the French Ligue 1 and has shown that he can be the player the national team can rely on upfront. Many are already seeing him as “the next Benni McCarthy”, and he’s definitely got the quality to have the sort of impact South Africa’s all time top scorer had. Mothiba has developed a good understanding with Percy Tau upfront, and it will be hard for the Libyan defence to contain.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has shown how versatile he can be, playing in a striking position for his club recently. He has done well there, scoring some important goals for Sundowns. Baxter has enough upfront, so he’ll probably start with the former Maritzburg United player in an attacking midfield role. He is creative and can open up the Libyan defence.
Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Lorch can definitely make an impact. He has been part of Baxter’s team in a few of the games during the qualifiers, but has not played much. He keeps getting better at club level, so he could get an opportunity to get more minutes on the pitch.
