Mamelodi Sundowns forward Phakamani Mahlambi has been booted out of the Bafana Bafana squad that will be participating in the COSAFA Cup, it has been confirmed.
This has been confirmed by head coach David Notoane, who did not want to go into the reasons as to why the former Al Ahly and Bidvest Wits has been released from the squad.
Mahlambi is alleged to have been under the influence, but Notoane says this is not the reason for him being released from the team. He, however, could not reveal the reasons.
"It's not the case," Notoane said.
"To my knowledge that is not the reason. Yes he is out, but it's for other reasons."
Mahlambi had a good second half of the season with Sundowns after struggling in the first round, scoring the goal which handed the Brazilians their ninth PSL title. He was seen as one of the key men for the COSAFA Cup, but will now be watching from his couch as his teammate represent the country.
