Pitso warns Tau on move: 'Don't get to Europe and you don't play'

Former coach Pitso Mosimane has not ruled out a return to Europe for Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau, but has provided a stark warning on any potential blockbuster transfer.

Tau starred for Hugo Broos' side as Bafana sealed an upset 2-1 win over Morocco in an AFCON qualifier at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The Al Ahly attacker has returned to his best form in the latter stages of the season by inspiring the Egyptian giants to the CAF Champions League title.

The 29-year-old has now transferred his club form to the national team that has sparked intense transfer speculation on a move to Europe.

"He moved to the Premier League, where he struggled. He didn't get game-time, whether it is the coach or this or that [reason]," Mosimane said.

"By the way, Percy was not getting any younger, by the time he was at Al Ahly, he was 27 years old.

"So. Would you want to stay with the logo of a team [Brighton Hove Albion] where you don't play football?

"If you can be paid the same or better, and you have the chance to play in the Club World Cup, to have the chance to win the CAF Champions League.

"Where you're also playing for the best team on the continent, where then would you like to be?

"Why did Gabriel Jesus move from Manchester City to Arsenal, it's also game-time but also don't lose your finances.

"That's my opinion, and he has done exceptionally well."

Mosimane added that a spate of injuries curtailed the former Mamelodi Sundowns star's performances when moving to Egypt.

"He was really stopped from showcasing his talent by injuries. During the time I had with Percy at Al Ahly, he had injuries," Mosimane added.

"He had many injuries, and even the national team coach [Hugo Broos] was complaining.

"Percy is now playing at his natural level where in fact, I think he can do even better.

"If there's an opportunity for him to get to Europe, then why not, but don't get to Europe and you don't play.

"You are now 29 years old, so you need to play."
