Resolute Broos reacts to Bafana AFCON qualification

Hugo Broos has broken his silence on Bafana Bafana's qualification for the 2025 AFCON with two games to spare, having become the first ever SA senior national team coach to achieve such a feat back-to-back.

South Africa were confirmed as having qualified for next year's continental showpiece to be staged in Morocco after third-placed Congo Brazzaville suffered a shock defeat to fourth-placed South Sudan in their last qualifier clash on Thursday.

The result leaves both South Sudan and Congo with no mathematical chance of overtaking either South Africa or Uganda, meaning the two qualification spots from Group K are already guaranteed.

Bafana, though, will still be aiming to finish top of the group as this may ease their route in the group stage draw set for next year.

For the outspoken tactician, though, the mission remains the same.

"I am very happy that the qualification is there," Broos said in the pre-match press conference on Thursday, as per SAFA media.

"It's a fantastic year for South African football after a bronze medal at the previous AFCON, and now another AFCON qualification.

"On the other side, it does not change anything for the game. One, yes, that there will be less stress than still having to win the game.

"But on the other side,I think we've made ourselves a promise. We want to win the game tomorrow. We want to finish first in the group, so that means that we have to beat Uganda.

"So, from that side, it doesn't change so much for us," he explained.

The Belgian also expressed his hope for what he calls 'a nice game, a good game' and that it will be a full house at Mandela National Stadium with the attendant atmosphere.

"But that is only a motivation for the players.

"So let's hope that the best team wins tomorrow (Friday).

Kick off is at 15:00.
