SAFA mum over bonuses for Bafana Bafana players following AFCON qualification

Bafana sealed their tickets to Egypt for the continental showpiece taking place in June, after beating Libya 2-1 in their finals Group E qualifier in Tunisia on Sunday.

The team has since returned home, arriving at the OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday morning, when questions were asked over financial stipends.

However, Paul downplayed the value behind any bonuses as he lauded the players for their efforts in hostile conditions, while hinting at discussion taking place thereover in the coming weeks.

“Money has never been an issue for the players, we’re extremely proud of the manner in which they went into this match and into the campaign as a whole,” said Paul.

“What we do with the finances post this is how we said we will manage the process with that. So, I think the players need to be saluted and congratulated for their professionalism.

“As both the HOD and the coaches as well as the [SAFA] vice president [Ria Ledwaba] has said, the players went out there like warriors, they knew what they had to do and they fought for the country, for the badge and they came home and brought us a victory.”
