‘Should people come to the stadium to see that?' - Broos continues scathing attack on lackluster Bafana

Bafana Bafana head coach says it's unfair to ask South Africans to come to the stadium for Bafana matches if performances are as poor they were during Friday night's 0-0 draw against Eswatini.

South Africa was held to a frustrating draw by Eswatini at FNB Stadium on Friday. The home side failed to exercise any control of the visitors as Eswatini created more goal attempts that South Africa.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Broos pulled no punches in expressing his disappointment.

"There were many feelings that went through my body, frustration, anger, disbelief. I didn't believe what I saw, the first half, also the second. But the first half we played very bad, I think we had one chance to score in the 90 minutes against – with all respect- a small team.

"We were lucky that we played against a team at that level otherwise it should have been a disaster. It should have been a disaster. I didn't t recognised my team.

"We tried to change things at half time, hoping that things should be better, but we went on playing at the same level. It's unbelievable three months ago that that team players against Morocco.

"You can't believe our eyes when you see that, there was no passion, we lost nearly every duel. We played far from our opponents and if we were unlucky, Eswatini would have scored.

Prior to Friday's match, both Broos and team captain Ronwen Williams had pleaded with South Africans to turn out in numbers for the match, as the friendly would serve a crucial part of Bafana's preparation – a call that fell on deaf ears as Bafana played in front of a nearly empty FNB Stadium.

Broos insists though that the poor showing in the stands was fitting for his side's underwhelming display.

"We know that it was bad, and that we will take our revenge against Ivory Coast," Broos added.

"We were asking for crowds, but I think with such a performance, we can't ask for crowds. Should people come to the stadium to see that and go home frustrated? no, not at all.

"So again, yes we do, also I want the crowd but you have to deserve it. You have to win the crowd and you don't do it with a performance like we did tonight."

Next for Bafana is a friendly match with Afcon hosts Ivory Coast to be played on Tuesday in West Africa.
