Supporters Forum: Freddy 'Saddam' Maake

In this edition of Supporters Forum, KickOff speaks to Bafana Bafana's biggest supporter Freddy "Saddam" Maake about his long-standing affair with the senior national team.

Maake who is also a staunch supporter of South African football Giants Kaizer Chiefs, is known for being the first football fan to introduce the Vuvuzela to our stadiums.

Maake was part of the Bafana fans the South African Football Association [Safa] took to Ivory Coast to give the boys support in the recently concluded Africa Cup Of Nations.

How long supported?

"I've been supporting Bafana Bafana since they came to life in 1992. Screamer Tshabalala was the first coach of Bafana Bafana.

"Our first game was against Cameroon in Durban, and Doctor Khumalo our first ever goal from the spot kick.

"Today I'm the president of SANASU. I have worked with many SAFA presidents, the late Solomon "Stix" Morewa, Molefi Oliphant, Kirsten Nematandani, and now Dr. Danny Jordaan."

Are you happy with the Bosses?

"I'm happy with the way Dr. Danny Jordaan is so dedicated to his job. This is his second term now.

"It's just that people are treating him the way they are doing because of lack of knowledge. He is using the very same system as the ANC. He is a political man. Whatever he promises he delivers.

"He's got connections at FIFA, Caf, and he is the reason Dr. Patrice Motsepe is a Caf president today. Let's stop abusing him, let's give him a chance and allow him to finish his term.

"I'm not saying this because I'm defending him, I'm not under SAFA payroll. I'm only a volunteer."

Are you happy with the coach?

"Yes, I am. He stands by what he believes in. He chose no-name players and they delivered.

"Let's give him more chance, let's allow him to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Dr.Jordaan should give him another term."

Are you happy with the players?

"I'm very happy with the players we currently have in our squad because they never play for themselves they play for the country."

Who do you want to see in the team?

"I would love to see Khanyisa Mayo in there, Ashley Du Preez and Mduduzi Shabalala."

Your message to the team?

"You fought. Everyone will now stop talking only about the class of 96, you've given us something fresh to talk about as a country.

"Players must respect their jobs and protect their talents."
