Nyobo, who is also a prominent local business man, was allegedly ambushed after climbing into his vehicle outside the North End Stadium, where Tornado had beaten Birmingham FC 4-1 in a league clash yesterday.
Further details around his killing are as yet known at this stage, but 'Mawawa', who was also a traditional healer, was the owner of the ABC Motsepe League club that were last month edged 1-0 in their Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.
According to reports, Nyobo was pronounced dead on the scene while passengers that were with him were taken to a nearby hospital after surviving the onslaught.
The South African Police Service have yet to make any official comments on the matter.
Tornado are currently top of the Eastern Cape stream of the ABC Mostepe League and are on course to qualify for the promotion play-offs to the National First Division.
This is a second incident of a similar nature in the space of just six months, after chairman of NFD club Uthongathi FC Nicholas Mkhize was gunned down in KwaZulu-Natal in September last year.
Tributes and messages of condolences have since poured in for Nyobo from the SA football fraternity.
Ajax Cape Town would like to send out their heart felt condolences to the Tornado FC family and fans after the owner Siphiwo “Mawawa” Nyobo died this afternoon. RIP
