News coming out of Botswana have indicated that Shakes Mashaba and Steve Komphela are some of the coaches the BFA are looking at, with reports suggesting that current mentor David Bright will be shown the door after a disastrous 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Zebras are on one point after five matches in Group I, and they final match will be against Angola in Gaborone next month.
Mashaba, who has previously been in charge of the national team of neighbours eSwatini, has recently taken charge of National First Division outfit Witbank Spurs and they are hoping the saves them from relegation. With his experience of having qualified for AFCON, he’d no doubt add value to the Botswana national team.
Like Mashaba, Komphela recently started a new job, taking over at Golden Arrows after an impressive first half of the season
Former Bafana Bafana assistant coach Serame Letsoaka is the technical director of football in Botswana and could have suggested the names of Mashaba and Komphela to the football association.
Free State Stars coach Nikola Kavazovic, who has previously been in charge of Botswana Premier League giants Township Rollers, is also linked with the job. Kavazovic took Rollers to last season’s CAF Champions League group stages, so he’s experience on the continent gives him a chance of getting the job. Madinda Ndlovu and Beston Chambeshi are also linked with the job.
