Huge Foster blow for Bafana

The latest regarding Lyle Foster's injury, which he sustained during Bafana Bafana's 5-0 annihilation of Congo-Brazzaville on Friday, has now been issued as preparations for the return leg of the AFCON qualifiers continue.

Foster, who scored in the match that took place at Gqeberha's Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, was stretchered off the field in the second half after sustaining a thigh injury.

He collided with opposition goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi in the second half of the match.

The Burnley FC marksman was unable to walk properly.

He was then replaced with Mamelodi Sundowns's new striker, Iqraam Rayners, in the 66th minute, who went on to score South Africa's fifth goal.

According to sources, head coach Hugo Broos and his Bafana team have left for Congo without the 24-year-old after realizing he would be unable to recover in time for Tuesday's fixture.

South Africa will again face Congo in the return leg of the Group K encounter, this time at Alphonse Massamba-De Bat Stadium.

A win for Bafana will see them booking a spot in next year's AFCON finals taking place in Morocco.

"Lyle Foster, he is not traveling with the rest of the team to Congo. He is going back to the United Kingdom," an insider tells KickOff.
