2016 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations third-place play-off Ghana vs Banyana Banyana match report

South Africa had an opportunity to collect Bronze at the Women's AFCON as they took on the Black Queens at the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

A second-half goal by defender Linda Eshun, who headed in unmarked at the back-post from a corner, saw Ghana walk away with the bronze medal

Bayana could have taken the lead in the 22nd minute, when Jane was found in space after a beautiful exchange of passes, but the midfielder placed her header narrowly over the crossbar.

Jane had another chance to get on the scoresheet 10 minutes later, but this time forced Ghana goalkeeper Patricia Mantey into a smart save with a header at the back-post.

Desire Ellis' side pushed for the equaliser in the second half, but were thwarted by goalkeeper Mantey as the West Africans held on to their slender advantage.

Line-up:

Banyana XI: Dlamini, Mabatle, Van Wyk, Mbane, Smeda, Jane, Makhabane, Seoposenwe, Vilakazi, Ngubane, Mcgoyi.
