All systems go for Banyana Banyana friendly against Tanzania

The team is currently in camp in Polokwane with coach Vera Pauw as they prepare for their friendly encounter against Tanzania. This will see Sasol Banyana Banyana complete what has been a successful women’s month, having played Namibia and Zambia respectively as part of the women’s month celebrations.

Coach Pauw said Banyana Banyana’s preparations for the biggest women’s football tournament have been going according to plan and with just over a month left before the team travels to Namibia for the African Women’s Championships, which will be used as a qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We travelled back to South Africa on Monday and we gave the players a day off on Tuesday but the girls are looking great, we will be ready for Tanzania come Sunday,” Pauw said.

Amanda Dlamini is recovering well from a knee injury which she suffered in the match played at the Dobsonville stadium against Namibia early this month.

With Pauw yet to name her final squad to compete at the African Women’s Championship in Namibia from 11 – 25 October, the competition among players seems to be growing with each match they play.

“Everyone is working hard in the team, it’s not going to be easy for the coach to make the final selection as everyone is putting in great effort,” said Janine Van Wyk.

Tanzania arrive in South Africa on Friday, with their match-up against Banyana scheduled for 18h00 on Sunday, 31 August at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
