Banyana Banyana dismantle Egypt to advance in AWCON

Under testing conditions in Limbe the South African women's national team were uncompromising in their dismantling of a helpless Egyptian side, who had occupied second position in the group going into the game.

Only one goal was scored in the first half of proceedings as Andisiwe Mgcoyi got Banyana Banyana up and running with her 27th minute strike.

In the second half, on the hour mark, Nonthando Vilakazi profited when Jermaine Seoposenwe darted in between goalkeeper and defender and stabbed the ball through for her to finish into the open net.

Refiloe Jane, fresh onto the park, was the next to get in on the act as Mgcoyi's shot was parried into her path and she poked home with virtually her first touch - increasing the advantage only minutes after the second had gone in.

Whilst the second and third goal were scrappy the two goals to round off the scoring were absolutely world class as Seoposenwe got the fourth with a simply delightful touch to bring the ball into space before slamming home.

The fifth was arguably even better as Linda Motlhalo jinked into space just inside the box before unleashing a perfect strike to leave the goalkeeper without a chance.

Desiree Ellis' charges will be hoping they carry this momentum into their last four clash to be played on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Cameroon kept their 100% record in tact with a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe that assured they finish the preliminary stages of the tournament, of which they are hosts, as winners of their group.

Both Banyana and the Indomitable Lionesses will wait until tomorrow to see who joins them in the next round with Nigeria, Ghana and Mali all still in contention.
