Banyana Banyana play Botswana on Saturday

Botswana return to South Africa for the second time to play Vera Pauw’s charges. They were walloped 4–0 earlier in June at the Isak Steyl Stadium and Pauw will be hoping for another excellent performance from the hosts.

“We are ready for the match against Botswana. We have played them before, but this time around we have improved a lot and we hope to show that on the field tomorrow.

“Our objective is to aim for excellence in the build-up, finishing and defence. Every task must be performed to the highest standard,” said coach Pauw.

The women’s national team are in their final stages of preparations to the biggest women’s football tournament in Africa, the 10th edition of the African Women’s Championships (AWC), which will be hosted in Namibia from 11 – 25 October.

Pauw’s charges have been hard at work with a month left before they travel to Windhoek. Banyana are yet to lose a match since the start of their preparations for the AWC.

Thus far they have played six international friendlies, winning five and playing to a goalless draw against Zimbabwe.

Pauw is happy with the team’s performance and looking at fine tuning the team ahead of their opening match against Cameroon on October 12.

“We are capable of creating chances but the team can do better as we head closer to competing at the Championships. We need to be more aggressive in front of goals,” she concluded.
