Following a goalless first half in Brazzaville, Banyana opened their account in the continental competition through Leandra Smeda, who gave her side the lead midway through the second half.
Banyana looked set to take maximum points from the encounter, yet it was not to be as Manie Christine converted a penalty just three minutes from time as the duo shared the points in their Group B fixture.
The South African women’s team next face Ghana on Thursday in their only other group fixture following Egypt’s withdrawal from the competition.
Victory will secure South Africa’s progress into the semi-finals of the tournament, hosted in Congo.
