Ellis names Banyana squad for Olympic Qualifier

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has named the final squad for the upcoming Olympic Third Round qualifier against Tanzania.

The reigning African champions will take on Tanzania in the first leg on Friday, 23 February before returning for the second leg at Mbombela Stadium four days later.

Ellis insists the side are well aware of the threat posed by Tanzania, who overcame Togo in the previous round.

"We know the opponents, we have footage and we've already analysed them, the same way I'm sure as they have analysed us," Ellis said, as per SAFA.net.

"They beat Togo, who were at the last WAFCON, and that's no mean feat. They also beat Botswana to qualify for this stage. We all know how good Botswana are and what happened back then. So, we're not taking anything for granted. We've worked a lot on some of the things this week, obviously waiting for the international-based players to meet us on the other side and then continue with our preparations.

"But the analysts have done really well in getting as much information as they can, setting up an analysis on the opponent and as a technical team we've all studied that and we know what to expect. We have to be at the absolute best, of course, because that's the only way you can get the result."
