Desiree Ellis takes charge of Banyana in place of Vera Pauw

Ellis, who spent two-and-a-half years as Pauw’s assistant, will be aided by assistant coach Maude Khumalo and technical adviser Sheryl Botes.

Khumalo has been in charge of the U-20 (Basetsana) and U-17 (Bantwana) teams, while Botes is a head coach at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.

All three are ex-internationals and hold CAF A licenses, according to SAFA.

The trio have all ready started preparing Banyana for the African Women’s Championships, taking place in Cameroon in November and December.

"We decided to have continuity within the team hence we have placed confidence in those who have worked with Vera before," said SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble.

"We have strong confidence that Ellis and her assistants will do a good job. In the meantime, the association is busy sifting through the names of possible candidates that will take over from Vera. We don’t want to rush the process as we want the best possible candidate for the job."

Pauw vacated the position following the expiry of her contract at the end of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, in which South Africa were eliminated in the first round after finishing bottom of Group E.
