Ellis' charges made history when they won their first-ever World Cup game against Italy on Wednesday, which secure a spot in the knockout stages for the first time in their history.
Despite ending up on the losing on Sunday morning, Ellis feels the nation can be proud of what the team achieved at the World Cup.
"Once again we create chances and we made errors in critical stages, but very proud of these players, they gave their all today and they know that they were in the game," Ellis said after the game, as per SuperSport TV."That's what we said, we were going to put up a fight. Towards the end of the second half, the legs ran out, tiredness and fatigue snuck in but we still tried to create a few opportunities but South Africa can be very proud of this team.
"I think this team has matured and grown, and one or two things here or there and would could be celebrating now but Goodluck to the Netherlands, but very proud of this team."
