Heredia: Swart, Dlamini best that we have

Former national team goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia has weighed in on the ongoing debate over who should be the starting Banyana Banyana goalkeeper at the Women's World Cup.

Fans hit out at the performance of the incumbent Kaylen Swart with Desiree Ellis' side already conceding four goals in their opening two group encounters.

"Look, we have what we have, in the market Swart and Ayanda Dlamini are the best of what we have," Heredia tells KickOff.

"They've improved over the years, other goalkeepers have been tried, but no one reached the level they have reached.

"But these two are not really in the top-top level of the World Cup level.

"South Africa and Argentina played to their best, but they are not really the top teams in the World Cup.

"Nigeria, USA, even Italy they are much more powerful than ours.

"With Dlamini and Swart, we need to know what's going on in camp. I think both are on the same level. No one is much better than the other.

"Maybe Andile is quicker, and Swart is cleverer in distribution and all that.

"But both of them struggle with aerial balls. But, these two ladies are the best of what we have in South Africa.

"But if you saw the goalkeeper from Nigeria, USA, Zambia, wow! Then you will know what the top goalkeeper is.

"Mistakes that Swart has committed in all the goals she conceded so far at the World Cup are probably because of the aerial balls, especially the goal of the previous game, he was too much on the line.

"She needs to commit herself because the ball flew into the goal area, just about two metres from the goal line. It's easy for a goalkeeper to reach for an aerial ball."
