Portia Moside: SAFA has neglected women's football and Banyana Banyana

The 33-year-old, who is one of only a few female players in the world who have scored over 100 goals, was not in Rio after retiring from the game last year.

Modise is the only player to have scored a goal for the South African Women’s national team at Olympics, which was a scorcher against Sweden in 2012.

Vera Pauw's current side did not score a single goal at the ongoing Games despite creating openings and only managed a respectable draw against Brazil and defeats to Sweden and China.

Modise believes that ever since she hung up her boots, women's football has been neglected by the governing body, herself included.

“Even if it can just show that women's football can do good, there will never be a change,” she told Ivuma FM.

“I’m looking at my situation right now … I did well for my country as a woman playing football. I’m still leading goalscorer with 101 goals.

“There were things that were promised to me but I’m still waiting for those things, no-one is saying anything and it is almost close to two years.

“And me doing well for my country, nobody is recognising that because I’m a woman.”

Modise, who achieved so much for South African football, was in 2005 named as one of two African footballers, alongside Nigerian Perpetua Nkwocha, to be nominated for the Women's FIFA World Player of the Year prize, which was claimed by Germany’s Birgitz Prinz.

She was also voted in the top three for the 2006 CAF Women's Footballer of the Year and selected to play in an All Stars match prior to the official draw for the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.
