Sasol reaches a milestone in women's football

This led to Sasol becoming the first sponsor of the senior national women’s team, Sasol Banyana Banyana, and the establishment of the Sasol League.

Today, the Sasol League provides a robust platform for female soccer players to develop and showcase their skills to an audience of national coaches and talent scouts. The league comprises 144 teams from across the nine provinces, featuring more than 2 800 players who have the opportunity to participate in regular competitive football throughout the year.

Sasol Banyana Banyana has been an even greater success. Looking back over the past seven years, it has been incredible to witness the milestones the team has achieved. Not only did the team qualify for their second consecutive Olympic Games in Rio after London 2012, Sasol Banyana Banyana will also be making their 11th appearance at the 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), set to take place in Cameroon from 19 November to 3 December.

“Sasol is incredibly proud of Sasol Banyana Banyana and the impact our partnership with SAFA has made in enabling the team to grow in strength, skill and athleticism, as well as to participate in football tournaments around the globe,” said Elton Fortuin, vice president for group communication and brand management at Sasol.

“We know that the team will represent South Africa well at AWCON 2016, which is the continent’s biggest sporting event,” Fortuin concluded.
