Al Ahly arrive in SA ahead of crunch CAF Champions League clash against Mamelodi Sundowns

CAF Champions League holders Al Ahly have touched down in South Africa led by Pitso Mosimane ahead of their crunch group match against Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend.

Saturday's tie plays out at FNB Stadium in what will be a key match in Group A with Mosimane's team out for revenge after they lost the reverse leg at home.

Ahly jetted out to Johannesburg from Cairo last night straight after dispatching Fagrie Lakay's Pyramids 3-0 keeping them top of the Egyptian Premier League with 28 points from 10 games.

"We knew we had to beat Al-Merreikh and Pyramids, and now we have to go and beat Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa

"We are determined to win the Egyptian Premier League this season, especially after losing it last year.

"Give me more time and you will see how strong Al Ahly can be, It took me eight years with Sundowns to bring out their full potential.

"As a result of the work done over the years, they have a very strong team right now," Mosimane was quoted as saying in the Egyptian press last night.

Though Ahly have been ruthless on the domestic scene in pursuit of their first league title under Mosimane they have been slow off the mark in the Champions League.

A draw, defeat, and win have left Ahly trailing Sundowns by three points in the group with Mosimane insisting that winning the group doesn't guarantee the trophy.

The Brazilians will be guaranteed qualification with a win in this match while Ahly needs a victory to keep hopes of winning the group alive.

Mosimane arrives back home after having agreed to a contract extension which will keep him with the African heavyweights for another two years.

Through his time in Cairo, Mosimane has won consecutive CAF Champions League titles plus two CAF Super Cups in a row, the Egypt Cup, and bronze medals from the Club World Cup.

Also, in the Ahly squad is Percy Tau, who played 70 minutes last night.

In his last visit to South Africa with Ahly, Mosimane found himself being treated with no respect at all as some supporters held placards with offensive messages.
