Benni McCarthy is hoping to emulate Kaizer Chiefs after graciously admitting to being inspired by the Soweto giants' CAF Champions League heroics last season.
Chiefs defied pre-season predictions in the Champions League last season when the club not only progressed beyond the group stage for the first time, but ultimately went on to reach the final of the competition.
The Glamour Boys were defeated by reigning champions Al Ahly but their remarkable run has served as an inspiration for others, including AmaZulu boss McCarthy, whose side are competing in their first-ever campaign in the competition this season.
"I have high expectations for myself and my team. That's the nature of the job that we are in. You can't have low expectations and expect to be in charge of a football club like this," McCarthy said ahead of Usuthu's clash against Horoya.
"I think we have a squad that is good enough if we can use the squad to its full strength and not cripple ourselves, we maybe have a high chance of getting past the group stage.
"I said before, my desire is to try and emulate what Kaizer Chiefs did. No one expected Chiefs to go to the final [last season]. I think that would be amazing. I'm not saying we can do that, but it's a nice target for us to want to achieve.
"A South African team, a team that no one expects to do anything, novices as a very new in the CAF Champions, and then to go and surprise everyone in the way they did.

"Kaizer Chiefs did that. It was the first time that they even got out of the group stage in the Champions League and they went all the way to the final.
"That's an amazing achievement and it was really special and inspiring. We also want to do special things and do things that inspire because then the next South African team that is in the competition, will also want to do that or maybe even win it.
"Kaizer Chiefs inspired me. They inspired my team because now we want to do what they did. That's why it's an inspiration for us to play without fear in this competition and make the most of the opportunity.
"Hopefully, we get past Horoya tomorrow and it's a positive one because the players have been putting in a lot of hard work, working tirelessly..."
