Lepasa guides Pirates into second preliminary round

Orlando Pirates advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League  after defeating Djabal FC 3-0 in the second leg on Friday night.

After getting the winner in the first leg last weekend, Zakhele Lepasa was rewarded with a start and was flanked by Katlego Otladisa and Kabelo Dlamini in the final third.

The in-form striker continued with the rich of vein of form in front of goal as he bagged the opener around the half-hour mark with a towering header after the visitors failed to clear their lines..

Djabal, who were trounced 9-0 by the Buccaneers in the same competition ten years ago, looked to hold their own in the hope of overturning the deficit from the first leg.

Lepasa looked to grab a brace in the latter stages before halftime from a delivery by Patrick Maswanganyi, but he was unable to make a proper connection and missed out.

Djabal launched a slight scare after the interval with a teasing attempt in a promising position, but goalkeeper Sipho Chaine got behind it and smothered.

The Buccaneers, though, were unfazed and grabbed a second goal 12 minutes into the second half with a superb strike from range by Maswanganyi.

Jose Riveiro's men continued to up the ante five minutes apart as Lepasa eventually ended up grabbing a brace when he latched on casual bit of defending to poke in the net.

Youngster Relebohile Mofokeng, who have featured promptly of late, came off the bench midway through the second half as Dlamini made way.

Pirates were in complete control throughout the final stages of proceedings and looked for more when Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo directed a loose ball from a clever play over target.

The Buccaneers were unable to get more before full-time, but had done enough to get the win and advanced to the next stage of the Champions League.
