CAF club competitions draw on Tuesday

The continental mother body has announced that the draw for the two club competitions will be held on Tuesday.

South Africa will be represented by four clubs with Sundowns joined by Cape Town City in the CAF Champions League while Marumo Gallants and Royal AM will play in the Confederation Cup.

Sundowns will be exempted from the first preliminary round of matches while Gallants will also enjoy the same benefits in the continent's second-tier competition.

The Brazilians were winners in 2016 and will be playing in the competition for the ninth consecutive season.

They have been in the group stages for the past seven years.  

Also getting a first-round bye in the Champions League will be Al Ahly, TP Mazembe, Wydad Casablanca, Raja Casablanca and Esperance. 

"The draw for the 2022-2023 TotalEnergies CAF Interclub competitions Preliminary Rounds will be conducted on Tuesday, 09 August 2022 in Cairo, Egypt at 16h00 local time.

"This draw will mark the beginning of a journey to the 2022/23 season of both TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies Confederation Cup.

"Wydad Athletic Club are the reigning TotalEnergies CAF Champions League champions.

"Another Moroccan club, RS Berkane are the defending champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup - having won the trophy twice in three years," reads a statement from CAF.

The preliminary round dates for both competitions have been set for 09 – 11 September / 16 – 18 September 2022 (Home/Away) for the first round.

The second-round dates have been slotted in for 07 – 9 October / 14 – 16 October 2022 (Home/Away).
