'It was a game of two halves' - Mamelodi Sundowns held in CAF Champions League

Co-coach Rulani Mokwena rued his side's inability to make it two wins from two as Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by Al-Merrikh in the CAF Champions League in Cairo on Saturday.

Sundowns lead the Group A standings with four points from a possible six, having played a game more than their next opponents Al Ahly.

Speaking after the final whistle, Mokwena said that it was a game of two halves in a tightly-fought contest.

"I think in the first half we played exceptionally well," Mokwena said.

"We were extremely dominant and created exceptional chances where we had six big, big chances.

"They also created two opportunities from our carelessness on the ball and caught us on the counter-attack.

"To be honest we had control of the match and didn't feel like we were in too much trouble for most parts of the second half.

"I thought tactically we were also tactically good where they made a couple of changes in the second half.

"When they reinforced the midfield we found it very difficult but there's no use in crying over spilt milk.

"So not so good in the second half but a performance in the first that we can build on."

Sundowns next face defending CAF Champions League champions Al Ahly in Cairo on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 21:00 (SA time).
