Modiba believes Marumo win served as preparation for Wydad tie

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba says their victory over Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership served as preparation for their CAF Champions League semi-finals against Wydad Casablanca.

The Brazilians face the tournament holders Wydad on the road in the first leg on Saturday and did meet the North Africans at the same stage four years ago.

Sundowns entered the last four of the continent's top club tournament with a dominant 6-2 victory over two-legs against Algerian outfit Chabab Belouizdad.

"This was a good preparation going into the semis as well because these people are competing in the CAF competition, and we just going to take the positives and do corrections where we did wrong and be able to focus on the next game. And hopefully, this game has prepared us for our semis," Modiba told Sundowns TV.

"These are the games why we signed for Sundowns. You know, these are the defending champions of the Champions League.

As the match is two-legged, the Premiership champions will treat the first leg as a once-off and get a favourable lead ahead of the return leg in Tshwane.

"We just going to respect them, but we are going to do our work as well. It's a tough one, in their own backyard and obviously, we know the stadium is going to be packed so we just going to play the tie.

"We're not going to play the occasion. We just going to play our match and treat it as our only match and not think about the second leg. But we need to do the job in the first leg.

"But it's going to be a tough one and I think we're expecting to do well and hopefully we will be able to win the game, but it's going to be a tough one in their own backyard," Modiba said.
