Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has handed the pressure baton to his former employers Mamelodi Sundowns after they completed a double over his side on Saturday.
Sundowns are already through to the knockout stages while Ahly – who are already back home – must now win their two remaining games to progress to the quarterfinals in their bid to defend the title they have won in the last two years.
"Sundowns has an opportunity to win it now since 2016. It has been too long," says Mosimane who was at the helm when The Brazilians lifted their only Champions League title to date.
"They have invested a lot of money and you can even see in the December transfers they have really invested a lot of money. Even more than us.
"The pressure is on them now. They have to win it now. If they can beat Al Ahly home and away, you might as well win it. If they don't win it then it is a Paris Saint Germain story. If you can win the group stages, then good but put it on the table then we talk.
"Now it is okay and part of the game. I think you know the story," says Mosimane adding that they know how to negotiate their way forward despite two defeats in the group.
The former Bafana Bafana coach's team plays Al Merreikh and Al Hilal in their last two games in the group.
"The remaining two games are cup finals. For us, we have to stay where we are and win the two remaining games which will be in Cairo. We have no excuse. We have done this before. It is our life. We are Al Ahly, and the emblem tells you it has been tough for many years.
"Group stages can deceive you and we have the experience of the group stages. You can win six out of six in the group stages and then go to the knockout stages we will see what happens. Go to Morocco when they have opened now and have 50 000 and then go to Tunis when they are open it is a different game. In Egypt we don't open that much but we would wish we would open, it is a different game," says Mosimane.
Saturday's defeat was revenge for Sundowns who have come stuck against Al Ahly in the last two years.
"This was the kind of semi-final or final Champions League match. We tried as we had the ball more than the opponent, but football is more than that. It is about goals, and we made one big mistake and went to sleep on a corner kick
"They deserved the win and congratulations. We didn't make many of course but we had one or two at the end but unfortunately, we missed," he adds.
