Permutations | Who Sundowns can face in CAF Champions League draw

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to discover their potential knockout stage opponents when the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League quarter-final draw takes place on Tuesday.

Sundowns appear the team to beat in this year's edition of the continental competition after setting a remarkable group stage points record (16) to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Defending champions, Al Ahly have also booked their passage to the next round as Pitso Mosimane's side will be aiming to defend their title for a third successive season.

Mosimane will avoid his former side at this stage of the competition after advancing from Group B with Sundowns finishing as leaders ahead of the Egyptian giants.

Format

The format for the quarter-final draw will be as follows:

In the draw for the quarter-finals, the four group winners will be seeded, and the four group runners-up will be unseeded.

The seeded teams will be drawn against the unseeded teams, with the seeded teams hosting the second leg.

Teams who qualified from the same group cannot be drawn against each other, while teams from the same association can be drawn against each other.

In the draws for the semi-finals, there will be no seedings, and teams from the same group or the same association can be drawn against each other.

As the draws for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be held together before the quarter-finals will be played, the identity of the quarter-final winners will not be known at the time of the semi-final draw.

Group Winners Runners-up
A Mamelodi Sundowns Al Ahly
B Raja Casablanca ES Setif
C ES Tunis CR Belouizdad
D Wydad AC Petro de Luanda

For Sundowns, they face the possibility of being drawn against any one of ES Setif, CR Belouizdad or Petro de Luanda.

The two Morrocan sides, Raja Casablanca and Wydad avoid each other as group winners, while the two Algerian representatives, ES Setif and CR Belouizdad also avoid each other due to finishing as runners-up.

Tuesday's draw will take place in Cairo at 15:00 (SA time).
