The Red Devils have just not been able to win in South Africa from the first time they played on these shores in the 1994 edition of the CAF Super Cup, which they lost 1-0 to Zamalek at FNB.
Since then, Al Ahly have played six South African opponents, losing six and drawing nine.
The first was in the 2001 CAF Champions League final first leg against Mamelodi Sundowns, which they drew 1-1 in Pretoria, before winning the return leg in Cairo to lift the trophy.
For their 2005 visit to SA, they played to a goalless draw against Ajax Cape Town on their way to topping Group A, then drew 2-2 in the first leg of their 2007 second round tie against Sundowns.

Next up was a 2-1 defeat to Platinum Stars in the first leg of the second round of the 2008 CAF Champions League, before another loss to SuperSport United in the 2011 edition in a second leg first round contest.
Then in 2013, they drew (0-0) with Orlando Pirates in the group stage, before another draw (1-1) in the first leg of the final.
In 2015, they lost 1-0 to The Buccaneers in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first leg, drew 0-0 with Bidvest Wits in the 2017 Champions League, followed by a 5-0 humiliation to Sundowns in the 2018/19 campaign.
For the 2020/21 season, they drew 1-1 with The Brazilians in Pretoria, then lost 1-0 at FNB Stadium to Sundowns the following season, followed by a 5-2 drubbing in March last year.
The draw with Pirates on Saturday came with Marcel Koller admitting that they were up against a strong team.
"We played against a strong team, and it was not easy to win.
