Record 10-time African champions Al Ahly are set to compete in a third consecutive CAF Champions League final next week Monday when the Egyptian giants go head to head against Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.
Ahead of the showpiece final, the Red Devils' South African coach Pitso Mosimane lamented his side's injury concerns which have seen a number of key figures ruled out but insisted that they will be ready for the encounter.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach was further prompted on the situation earlier this week with particular reference to his side's fixture congestion, which he claims is just one more challenge to overcome in the club's pursuit of glory.
"There is no problem with playing every three days," Mosimane added, per KingFut. "This has always been the case at Sundowns and this is normal if we are competing in the Champions League.
"I would rather play every three days and compete for the Champions League than to play every five days in one tournament and crash out of another. We will fight to win the CAF Champions League.
"We played in the absence of important international players before under great pressure and we are used to it. In England, they play a league of 20 teams and two cups, but the season ends and they go on holiday before preseason, and this is something that's missing in Egypt.
"Why do you think we have all these injuries? Hamdy Fathi, [Amr] El-Sulya, [Mohamed] Abdelmonem, Yasser [Ibrahim], [Aliou] Dieng, and even [Mohamed] El-Shenawy. These are all muscular injuries due to the congestion of fixtures without breaks."
"I am confident that we will win the CAF Champions League. We won back-to-back titles in the past two years and 10 times in total. So why not win the 11th title?" he concluded.
Should Mosimane inspire Ahly to victory over Wydad Casablanca next week, the 57-year-old will become the first-ever coach to win three consecutive Champions League titles, having become one of just five to have done so twice in a row after last season's triumph.
