Percy Tau opened the scoring for the CAF Champions League defending champions on his return from injury.
The 27-year-old's evening ended on a sour note though as he was withdrawn by Mosimane at half-time due to a fresh injury.
Speaking after the final whistle, Mosimane insisted that his side were only focusing on reaching the latter stages of the competition.
"The game went as expected," Mosimane said.
"It was a very difficult game against a rival where you know the history between Egyptian and Sudanese games which are always emotional.
"We didn't play very well, what was needed for us was to win the game and we did that. Who cares if you played very good.
"This was a must-win game which was a do-or-die encounter so we won the match which was the most important.
"It was a game of character and the players respected the badge and we fought for the three points."
