Sundowns and Pirates to know CAF fate

CAF has confirmed the date for the quarterfinals draw of the Champions League and Confederation Cup which will determine both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates' path.

Sundowns have cruised to the last eight of the Champions League after becoming the only club already standing as group winners with a game to spare.

The Brazilians have made easy work of their Group A opponents Al Ahly, Al Hilal, and Al Merreikh in winning Group A.

They will go into the draw as one of four clubs seeded as group winners who face the runners-up who are yet to be determined.

Sundowns' opponents for the last eight meetings scheduled for April 15-16 and April 22-23 can be any of Raja Casablanca, ES Setif, Esperance, CR Belouizdad, Wydad Casablanca, or Petro de Luanda depending on the outcome of the last round of group matches.

Lifting the Champions League is the prime target for Sundowns this season as they chase the quadruple.

For Pirates, they also advance from Group B of the Confederation Cup.

If they finish top of the group after their final match against Al-Ittihad at home they will play any of the runners-up from the other three groups which could include ASEC Mimosas, RSB Berkane, Simba, Al Ahly Tripoli, Pyramids, Al Masry, or TP Mazembe.

The Confederation Cup is Pirates' only realistic chance for silverware this season.

The date for the draw is April 5 and will be held at the CAF headquarters in Cairo.
