Tlale: 'Sundowns believe they can conquer Africa'

Club legend John Tlale believes that Mamelodi Sundowns have the belief that they can conquer Africa after a convincing win over Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.

The 2016 African champions claimed a 5-2 win in a Group B showdown at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.

"The thing is, we don't know what's happening behind the scenes, but for now, let's say Rulani is doing well, let's support him," Tlale tells KickOff.

"But it's still too early to say that he is proving his worth.

"We once went close to 18 or 20 games without conceding a goal with coach Manqoba Mnqithi.

"Just because Rulani is a head coach now, we can't say it is he who is doing well to what Sundowns has done before.

"Yes, Rulani is doing well, but I don't want to rush into saying he is proving himself, you know, only time will tell."

Tlale says he was impressed with the way his former team showed no respect towards Ahly.

"The boys showed character and confidence, you can see they believe they can conquer Africa.

"Al Ahly used to be a household in Africa, but now that thing has come to an end because last year they beat them home and away.

"It shows that things are turning for the good for Sundowns.

"I can't say they are a big team in Africa Sundowns now, because sometimes you can see when they play Al Ahly they want to prove a point, if they can keep that consistency, then you can say they are the new Al Ahly of Africa.

"What stood out for me on Saturday is the goal that was scored by Teboho Mokoena.

"The way they were so brave in keeping position as well impressed me."
