This comes after former manager Juan Carlos Garrido was shown the door after the Red Devils were knocked out of the CAF Champions League, losing on penalties to Moroccan club Moghreb Tetouan.
It will be Mabrouk’s fifth tenure in charge of the side in a caretaker role, his last stint coming last year when he guided the African giants to the Egyptian Premier League title.
Reports suggest Mabrouk was only appointed this time after Hossam El-Badry – Egypt’s Olympic team’s national coach – rejected an offer by Al Ahly to take charge.
Al Ahly currently lie third in the League standings, and have been drawn against Tunisian club Club Africain in their CAF Confederation Cup play-off clash.
