Royal AM snatch away goal to advance in Confed Cup

Royal AM secured a spot in the next phase of the CAF Confederation Cup on the away goals rule against Zesco United on Saturday afternoon as the tie finished 1-1 over the course of the two-legs.

It was the return tie for the outfits from Zambia and South Africa respectively after the first-leg which took place last Sunday in Durban finished goalless.

Royal AM, who overcame Highlanders from esWatini to book a spot in the second preliminary round in the previous stage, came into the game with no win from their last two matches.

However, Zesco showed up to the clash with back-to-back stalemates from their recent two encounters across all competitions with their last win in the middle of September.

The Zambian outfit also edged out a side from esWatini in Royal Leopards to set-up a clash with their adversaries from the DStv Premiership Royal AM.

As neither side managed to find the breakthrough in the first-leg encounter, Zesco broke the deficit and went ahead at halftime as well as the overall contest.

Thwihli Thwahla responded following the break and levelled matters to go ahead on the away-goal rule in the encounter from a holistic perspective, with Ruzaigh Gamildien finding the back of the net.

Royal AM were able to hold onto their slender advantage throughout the course of the second period and bagged the crucial away-goal to progress to the next round of the Confederation Cup.
