Felipe Ovono wants second star for Orlando Pirates

The goalkeeper from Equatorial Guinea has been entrusted with the number one duties after Brighton Mhlongo suffered a knee injury and Siyabonga Mhlongo was not registered for the CAF Confederation Cup.

And he’s done a good job so far, keeping a clean-sheet in the 2-0 win against AC Leopards which saw the Buccaneers qualify for the semifinals.

Ovono tells KICK OFF magazine that is exactly why he decided to join the club in the first place.

“[Before I joined] I followed Pirates because they play in Africa,” he says. “When my manager mentioned Pirates I was excited; I didn’t think twice.

“The League here is good and there is tough competition – that’s why I came to play for Pirates.”

Asked whether he can help Bucs claim that elusive second star, Ovono responds: I believe I can – I want to do that!”

Pirates’ final CAF group game before the semifinals is on 12 September against Zamalek in Cairo.
