Former Ivory Coast striker Zahoui, the first African international to play in Serie A, takes over one month from the start of the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers, when Niger host Namibia on June 14.
Zahoui was coach of Ivory Coast when they finished runners-up at the 2012 Nations Cup finals despite not losing a game or conceding a goal. They lost in the final to Zambia on post-match penalties.
As a player he was on the books of Ascoli in Italy and Nancy and Toulon in Ligue 1.
The 52-year-old Zahoui was fired by Guinea’s AS Kaloum after a brief three-month spell when they failed to reach the group phase of the CAF Champions League.
They have appointed French coach Hugo Cabouret to lead them against Pirates in Mali this weekend.
