Orlando Pirates to face ES Setif in Ghana in CAF Confederation Cup Group A opener

Orlando Pirates will open their CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign against ES Setif in Ghana, the Algerian club has announced.

The Soweto giants would have been unable to secure access to the North African nation due to the current Covid-19 restrictions that hampered Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

But the Algeria Ligue 1 leaders have acted swiftly to secure a neutral venue for the Group A opener with the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana confirmed to host their continental showdown.

"The first meeting of conciliation in the round of CAF Cup groups against South African Orlando Pirates will be officially played in Ghana next week," the club statement read.

snl24.com/kickoff understands that Egypt and Mali rejected proposals for the upcoming fixture on 10 March before the Ghana Football Association welcomed the tie.

Pirates and Setif were drawn alongside Nigerian Football Premier League giants Enyimba and Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi.
