The midfielder has only missed four games out of the last 101 matches that Pirates have played since the start of the 2013/14 season, when they played to a goalless draw against AC Leopards in the opening match of the CAF Champions League.
Those four games missed were due to a suspension against University of Pretoria in April, while he was rested against amateurs Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup, just like he was given a break a for the two League fixtures against Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2013/14 season.
That means Manyisa has started 97 games for Pirates over the last 24 months, plus a heavy dosage of football for Bafana Bafana – incredible for the midfielder considering that he had started just 100 games in his first five years at the club.
“There is nothing like that,” Manyisa says in reference to being quizzed about fatigue which has surfaced again following average performances against CS Sfaxien and Zamalek recently.
“Football is something that I love. I will never complain. I just take care of myself and relax.”
Stretching back to August 2011, when Pirates opened the season against Santos in a MTN8 quarter-final, Manyisa has started 166 of the 185 games played by Pirates, weighing up to a 90 percent presence mark – rare numbers in the PSL over a four-year period.
While most players would have been standing at the top of the Carlton Centre and moaning about needing a rest, Manyisa still has the drive to succeed in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Pirates are in a group that will force them to take two long trips up north, one of which has already taken them to Tunisia via Dubai, putting up with 28 hours on their way to Sfax in Tunisia and another 36 hours on their way back.
“We told ourselves as players that we want to win this competition, but we will take it one game at a time,” Manyisa declares.
