Pirates' Happy Jele is confident of CAF progress

Pirates welcome CF Mounana of Gabon to Orlando Stadium tomorrow for the second leg of their Confederation Cup tie with the scores level at 2-2.

The Buccaneers needed late goals from substitutes Lehlohonolo Majoro and Thabo Rakhale and a strong performance from goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo in Gabon a fortnight ago after Mounana scored on either side of the interval to lead 2-0.

The Soweto giants have not won a trophy this season and Jele concedes this “is bad for the team and bad for the fans”.

So the pressure is on Pirates to beat Mounana or restrict them to a low-scoring draw to secure progress in the competition.

“We have tried our best this season and it has not been enough, but we still have another chance to win a cup, so we must push really hard in CAF,” Jele says. “We are highly motivated to get into the group stages and we believe we will take it from Mounana.”

Bucs go into the match in high spirits after beating Supersport United 4-1 in the League at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
