Tinkler explains Pirates foreign allocation

New signing Ovono travelled with the team to Nelspruit to take on Zamalek in the second match of Group B on Saturday, with Masuku also part of the squad that will face the Egyptians.

Motupa, however, is still nursing an injury he picked while on Bafana Bafana duty as they moved to the next round of CHAN qualifying after wins over Mauritius.

“We have registered these three players for the group stages. Gift came back from Bafana injured, he is not in the squad at this moment, but we have included Masuku and the new goalkeeper,” Tinkler said after Pirates’ training session at Mbombela Stadium.

“We are happy with them. We had five foreign spaces left, we’ve now filled three of those five. We’ve still got two spaces and one or two players might join us so we’ve reserved those spaces for them.”

New striker Tendai Ndoro has not been registered for CAF yet, although the club say they are still working on it.

Tinkler said his side need to use home ground advantage when they meet Zamakek tomorrow.

“There is always an advantage playing at home, but we’ve got to utilise that advantage,” he said.

“We have to come out there play and to our strength, play highly motivated, enjoy the occasion because you are playing a big team. Don't start stressing out and become nervy.

“Although, we’ve got a squad that has played them before, they have been in this situation, they understand what it takes to play in this competition and that will help us in tomorrow's performance.”
