Mugerwa yesterday completed his move to Pirates from Uganda Revenue Authority, penning a three-year deal with the Soweto giants.
Eric Tinkler's men are in the semi-finals of the continental competition, with Mugerwa backing them to go all the way.
“Look I know from personal experience that Pirates is a huge challenge and that is why I honestly feel the team is a favourite to win the Confederation Cup,” Mugerwa told the Sea Robbers' website.
“I had the opportunity to play against them earlier this year when I was with URA of Uganda.”
Meanwhile, the midfielder says he is aware of what is expected of him in Mayfair following a sit-down with coach Tinkler.
“The coach has sat down with me and told me his expectations and those of the club. He spoke to me about overcoming my weaknesses, such as not being shy and taking more shots in front of goal.
“I have also been blessed to have players who understand the culture of the club and have taken the time to sit down and give me guidance on what I need to do in order to be success at the club. Guys like Lekgwathi, Sarr and Majoro have been most helpful in getting me up to speed with how things work around here.”
While Mugerwa is thrilled to be a Buccaneer he expects a battle for game-time.
“I’m overwhelmed and proud to be a Pirates player because this is a big team and one of the biggest clubs in Africa. It’s good for me, it shows that I am headed in the right direction and that my career as a football player is taking a positive turn.”
He added: “There are many good players in the midfield, so yes, I know I have my work cut out for me. I will have to work hard to impress the coaches and hopefully get an opportunity to play for the team.”
