Comitis on CT City's astute transfer business involving Mayo, Fielies

Chairman John Comitis has detailed how Cape Town City eventually decided to reject a big-money offer from Mamelodi Sundowns for Khanyisa Mayo, while revealing how defender Taariq Fielies departed the club.

Speaking to KickOff, Comitis revealed behind-the-scenes details on the exploratory talks with the DStv Premiership defending champions for the Bafana Bafana striker.

"Mayo is not going anywhere, we made it very clear to Sundowns early on," Comitis tells KickOff.

"At this stage, we can't afford to allow him to move.

"We have to keep the team in order so that we can remain in the top five.

"So, Mayo forms part of that, and he was happy to stay, and at this stage, nothing is happening with Mayo."

Comitis also explained the departure of 31-year-old Citizens' trusted defender Taariq Fielies, who has since joined AmaZulu.

"Yes, we sold Fielies, that came from him wanting a move, he's been with us for almost seven years.

"And he wanted me to consider the transfer because he wanted to get out of Cape Town. So, we obliged.

"It was a very hard decision; he was a stalwart in our starting lineup when he played for us.

"But he was no longer happy here, he wanted to get out of Cape Town. He wanted to move out of Cape Town.

"So, we helped him, and we did a nice deal with AmaZulu, so we have to move on."
