Manyama confirms he won’t be lost to football

Retired footballer Lebogang Manyama says despite ending his career prematurely, he will not be lost to the game of football.

Manyama announced his retirement following a long battle with a knee injury.

The attacker was set to return to Cape Town City after departing Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2021/22 season.

"I will not be lost to football," Manyama told Sports Night with Andile.

"I've thought of coaching. I think my perspective of having played in big games will be useful for the youngsters."

City chairman John Comitis happened to be among the first individuals the 32-year-old informed of his intention to quit.

"John Comitis was one of the first people that I talked to about hanging up my boots," Manyama added.

"I realised that I played my heart out. Sometimes you don't see it until you stop.

"To be quite honest, I played in 2021, I think we were playing in the CAF because I got injured in the CAF against Simba in Tanzania.

"I remember the game because we lost 3-0 and then won 4-3 because we had won 4-0 a week earlier.

"I got injured in that game, and there were two games left, if I recall, it was TS Galaxy and Golden Arrows.

"We played Arrows first, the game where I scored a hat-trick.

"If you check that game and check the pictures my knee was already wrapped up. It was never 100% every time you saw me playing, I was playing with pain," Manyama said.

During his career, Manyama donned the colours of Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, City, Konyaspor, Chiefs notably.
