‘He is not a topic right now’

Cape Town City have emphasised their stance on the departure of Khanyisa Mayo two months ago to join Algerian club CR Belouizdad.

Mayo carried the scoring responsibility on his shoulders at City and ultimately earned a move to North Africa, where he is yet to get off the mark with his struggling club.

CRB have started the new domestic season on a slow path with three draws and one defeat in four league games, forcing them to sack their head coach Corentin Martin.

Luckily, they managed to squeeze their way into the CAF Champions League group stage and will play in Group C alongside Orlando Pirates, Al Ahly and Stade d'Abidjan.

Back in Cape Town, City have only scored four in six matches and are yet to net more than once in any of the games played to date.

Could they still be having a hangover from the departure of their top man?

"He was always a big factor," acknowledges long-serving Thabo Nodada

"He was our top goal scorer and was the PSL's top scorer at one point, but we got to move on.

"We can't be hanging over Mayo.

"He is not a topic right now.

"We are working with what we have got.

"We believe what we have got is enough to take us through and that is all we are talking about," says Nodada.
