In this edition of Supporters Forum, KickOff speaks to fanatic Seraj Fredericks about his seven-year affair with Cape Town City.
Name of supporter…
"Seraj Fredericks. I work in the flooring industry. I am the ambassador of Cape Town City FC, the blue and gold army supporters club.
"That doesn't mean they are paying me though; we are doing it for the love of the team and the boys.
"You get attached to the players more than anything else. We never sit with the VIPs that's not where the vibe is, we always sit amongst the ordinary people the noise makers.
"In the VIP you can't shout, you can't wave flags [laughs]. There is no banter in the VIP."
Clubs supported?
"Back in the day, it was Cape Town Spurs when it was still Cape Town Spurs the original one, not the Ajax Cape Town one that is there now. Hellenic and Spurs were still rivalling then.
"Later I was a follower of Ajax Cape Town, but the crowd wasn't really for me. So, when Cape Town City came on board me and my cousins, I stopped supporting Ajax.
"We felt the crowd of Ajax they were too wild. They were too rude you could not sit amongst them with your kids.
"So, we decided to go to Cape Town City and start something there."
How long supported?
"I've supported City since day one, 23 August 2016. That was the first day when we played."
Are you happy with the bosses?
"I cannot say we are happy with the bosses, at City, we know players by names, and they know us by name, we like a big happy family with the players. But when a player leaves you are kind of not happy with the boss [laughs].
Are you happy with players?
"We've got a few nice youngsters coming through, we can do better, there's something not working for our boys now. We need to wrap up the season, they need to get their heads back into it. We were expecting better you know, a top-three finish at least."
Who do you want them to sign?
"I would like Yusuf Maart to come to Cape Town, he is a Cape Town boy, and he is doing it in Joburg. And Lyle Lakay needs to stay, and we need at least two strikers."
Your message to the team…
"Fight another day, work together, fight for top two or top three next season. That is the best that we can do."
